1) LGBT Rights Movement Perspectives (45 min)

The demo on Sunday was incredible and historic. The SW article captures it well ( http://socialistworker.org/2009/10/12/we-demand-full-equality ). We need to take stock of this trailblazing movement and its multi-faceted significance, and discuss an understanding of what it will take to win, what are the political fault line within the movment and what are the critical next steps.

Please watch these awesome speeches in preparation:

2) Northeast Socialist Conference - Mobilizing like crazy: why its CRITICAL and how we can do it.

The National Equality March deeply illuminated the developing power of a new generation of activists who refuse to sit at the back of the bus. The new generation of leaders MUST be connected with ideas, theory and history. We need to know how to explain DOMA, DADT, and ENDA inside and out. We need to deeply understand the hidden lesson of the civil rights movement at each of its different stages and through the different debates and challenges it faced and how it failed and succeeded. We need to study, learn and debate the sociohistorical roots of oppression if we aim to set our sights on eliminating it.

The ideas held by the fighters in the LGBT movement and every movment will be decisive in whether the movements will be succesful in the immediate next phases and over the long term. The conference is about arming us for this task. There is nothing close to being like it and the amount of fighters we bring along with us to this conference will be decisive for the fate of the movements in the ensuing period and for moving forward in the  project of building a socialist political alternative - which will NECCESARILLY be at the heart of building a militant, class-struggle Left.

-We need to have at least 50 individual sit-down meetings with potential registrants between now and the conference.
-Keeanga of "Why I'm Marching" fame will be speaking on the plenary and "next steps for the LGBT movement" panel
-If you have not semi-memorized the schedule and workshops, you are not thinking about and discussing it enough :)

3) Antiwar Perspectives for the Antiwar Demonstration this weekend (20 min)

There is a huge amount of confusion about what Obama is doing vis a vis the wars. Socialist politics have a very important and clarifying role to play. We will discuss US imperialism under Obama, the demonstration, expectations, and goals
