On December 1st, Commander in Chief Obama announced his escalation of 30,000 more US troops in Afghanistan. Replete with war-mongering rhetoric and lies, his speech was ominously reminiscent of Bush. Even as popular sentiment has turned against the war in Afghanistan, as Americans are loosing homes, jobs and basic services, Obama has doubled the troop presence in Afghanistan since he took office in January.

We need to build an antiwar movement that can challenge Obama’s war mongering – one that understands US interest in Afghanistan and its role in US empire, the historical legacy of foreign occupations there, the quagmire that has developed by a fatally flawed war strategy, and the way in which occupation is destroying Afghanistan.
