Sun, 10/23, "U.S. IMPERIALISM IN THE AGE OF OBAMA – DISCUSSION AT #OCCUPYBOSTON"

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 23, 12PM
OCCUPY BOSTON, DEWEY SQUARE
SOUTH STATION T-STOP

Three years after Obama was elected on a platform of change, of an end to wars, he has instead escalated the occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan, with no end in sight, has launched illegal drone airstrikes and targeted assassinations in Yemen and Pakistan, killing thousands of civilians.

At the height of the Arab Spring, the Obama administration stood by as its allies brutally attacked mass movements for democracy in Yemen and Bahrain. The U.S. launched a new war in Libya this year, ostensibly to defend Libyans fighting for freedom against the brutality of the Gaddafi regime, while turning a blind eye as Israel continues to enforce the siege on Gaza, kill and ban activists attempting to break it, and expand settlements in the West Bank and expel Palestinians from their lands.

Here at home, the continued expansion of surveillance programs and military tribunals, and the continued FBI repression of Arabs, Muslims and antiwar activists led George Washington University Professor Jonathan Turley to declare that "the election of Barack Obama may stand as one of the single most devastating events in our history for civil liberties".

Join the International Socialist Organization for discussion and debate on the new face of U.S. imperialism at Occupy Boston. We will be reading
