11/19, Women & Socialism: Class, Race & Capital featuring Sharon Smith

Women & Socialism:

Class, Race & Capital featuring Sharon Smith

November 19, 7pm
358 Washington Street
Dorchester, MA 02124
(23 Bus from Ruggles, or a short walk from the Fields Corner T stop on the Red Line)

Join a discussion with Sharon Smith that takes up issues of women’s oppression for a #Marxist perspective focusing on the centrality of race and class amid the stirrings of a new movement today.

More than forty years after the women’s liberation movement of the 1960s, women remain without equal rights. If anything, each decade that has passed without a fighting women’s movement has seen a rise in blatant sexism and further erosion of the gains that were won in the 1960s and 1970s. Just in the last few weeks, the concerted attack on Planned Parenthood has revealed the extent to which our reproductive rights are under attack.

This event will also celebrate the launch of Smith’s latest book, "Women and Socialism: Class, Race, and Capital".

Sharon Smith is the author of "Subterranean Fire: A History of Working-Class Radicalism in the United States". Her writings appear regularly in Socialist Worker and the International Socialist Review (ISR).
